The 2020 Festival kicks off with a Parisian flair as La Bohème, Giacomo Puccini’s heart-rending tale of lovers living on borrowed time, returns to the stage of Bass Performance Hall after a seven-year absence. Directed by Linda Ade Brand, this immortal love story follows the lives of four starving artists, struggling to survive in the Latin Quarter of 19th century Paris. Featuring gorgeous sets by Michael Yeargan (two-time Tony winner for South Pacific and Light in the Piazza), Fort Worth Opera’s production is a sumptuous feast for the senses. On Christmas Eve, a fragile seamstress named Mimì – portrayed by luminous international soprano Talise Trevigne (Hamlet, JFK) – steps into the chilly apartment of the impassioned poet Rodolfo (prize-winning Italian tenor Giordano Lucà) in search of a match to light her candle. There in the darkness of that fateful wintry night, they both encounter a love that will alter the course of their lives forever. Trevigne and Lucà are joined by dazzling Canadian soprano Tracy Cantin as the feisty Musetta, powerful baritone Zachary Nelson as the spirited painter Marcello, charismatic Mexican-American baritone Efrain Solis as the clever musician Schaunard, and powerful bass-baritone Donovan Singletary (The Marriage of Figaro) as the philosopher Colline.
