Philippe Quint

For Philippe Quint, the violin has always been a voice for storytelling and discovery, transforming each performance into a musical journey shared with the audience. “It’s about bringing that human connection back to the concert hall,” he recently told The Strad magazine.

With multiple Grammy Award nominations for his albums, Quint has forged an international career notable for its unconventional artistic path, broad repertoire, and unwavering commitment to exploration, earning praise for his “searingly poetic lyricism” (UK Daily Telegraph) and “breadth of tone and passion” (The New York Times).

As Founder and Music Director of Magellan Arts and Magellan Chamber Orchestra, he is now entering the organization's second season, continuing the Chamber Music Immersive Series in partnership with the Chicago History Museum through innovative performances and impactful educational programs.

Quint has performed with world-class orchestras including the London Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. His dedication to contemporary music is evident in numerous premieres by today’s foremost composers, including Errollyn Wallen, Lera Auerbach, William Bolcom and John Corigliano to name only a few. His boundless curiosity led him to also create original multimedia format programs such as The Muse, Homage to J.S. Bach, Charlie Chaplin’s Smile, and Astor Piazzolla: Between Angels and Demons.

Highlights of his 2026 – 2027 season include a return to the Cabrillo Festival with Cristian Măcelaru for the world premiere of Clarice Assad’s Kontrol; a return to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra for the UK premiere of Lera Auerbach’s Violin Concerto No. 1 led by Bassem Akiki; the Irish premiere of Errollyn Wallen’s Violin Concerto with the Ulster Orchestra under Anna Handler; leading the Vancouver Symphony (USA) in performances of Vivaldi’s and Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons; and his debut with the Fort Worth Symphony under Anna Skryleva.

Quint's championing of new music has resulted in numerous premieres of works by some of the most exceptional composers of today including Errollyn Wallen, Lera Auerbach, Clarice Assad, Vivian Fung, James Lee III, and Jakub Ciupinsky while continuing to highlight eminent American composers William Bolcom, Lukas Foss, John Corigliano, Leonard Bernstein, Henry Cowell and Ned Rorem.

In spring 2024, Quint premiered a new violin concerto written especially for him by the recently named Master of the King’s Music, Belize-born British composer Errollyn Wallen. Co-commissioned performances followed with the Calgary Philharmonic and Rune

Bergmann, Kansas City Symphony and Matthias Pintscher, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Joana Carneiro, Brevard Festival Orchestra and Keith Lockhart, North Carolina Symphony and Carlos Miguel Prieto, and at the Cabrillo Festival with Cristian Măcelaru, followed by the German and Spanish premieres with the Magdeburg Philharmonic and Anna Skryleva and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia and Catherine Larsen-Maguire. Wallen’s Concerto was subsequently released on PENTATONE label in April of 2025 to rave reviews, recorded with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under Andrew Litton, alongside Lera Auerbach’s Violin Concerto No. 1, written for Quint in 2001.

Other notable performances include appearances with the London Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Houston Symphony, the New Jersey Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony, the WeimarStaatskapelle, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, the China National Symphony, Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia, the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Berlin Komische Oper Orchestra and MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, performing under the batons of such renowned conductors such as the late Kurt Masur, Marin Alsop, Edo De Waart, Andrew Litton, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Tugan Sokhiev, Ludovic Morlot, James Gaffigan, Carl St. Clair, Michael Stern, Vladimir Spivakov, Cristian Macelaru, Kristian Jarvi, JoAnn Falletta, Krzysztof Urbanski, Jorge Mester, Jahja Ling, Krzysztof Urbanski, Steven Sloane, Kent Nagano and Bramwell Tovey.

Philippe Quint boasts an impressive, 17 award-winning commercial releases that encompasses a wide array of American music, original arrangements, rediscovered gems and beloved classics from the standard repertoire. His discography highlights include Chaplin’s Smile with pianist Marta Aznavoorian (Warner Classics), Opera Breve with pianist Lily Maisky, Glazunov & Khachaturian Violin Concertos with Bochumer Sinfoniker (Steven Sloane), and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with Sofia Philharmonic (Martin Panteleev) for AvantiClassics.

Notable Naxos recordings include the Grammy-nominated Korngold Violin Concerto with Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería (Carlos Miguel Prieto), Paganini works arranged by Fritz Kreisler, the world premiere of John Corigliano's The Red Violin Caprices, William Schuman’s Violin Concerto, Ned Rorem’s Violin Concerto, Miklos Rozsa’s complete works with pianist William Wolfram, and Bernstein’s Serenade (Alsop/Bournemouth).

An active chamber musician, Philippe has appeared at the Mostly Mozart, Verbier, Luzern, Dresden, Caramoor, Colmar, Ravinia, Aspen, Rome, Moritzburg, La Jolla, Lincoln Center and Chautauqua festivals in addition to recitals and chamber performances at the Kravis Center, UC Davis Presents, National Gallery in Washington and San Francisco Performances.

Making his home in New York since 1991, Quint studied at the Special Music School for the Gifted with the famed violinist Andrei Korsakov making his orchestral debut at the age of nine. He earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Juilliard School. His distinguished pedagogues and mentors included Dorothy DeLay, Cho-Liang Lin, Masao Kawasaki, Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, Arnold Steinhardt and Felix Galimir.
